#SandraBland: My Rant
This story saddens my heart and disturbs my mind. In case you haven’t heard, Sandra Bland is a black woman who was pulled over for a traffic violation, arrested and somehow died in police custody three days later. Read the full story here. She was a black woman who was basically pulled out of her car because she didn’t want to put her cigarette out while sitting in her own vehicle. The officer of the law, spoke to her very rudely as she did to him, but he escalated the situation quickly when asking her to get out of her car and going as far to handcuffing her as well as throwing her to the ground as we can hear her saying in the video (but unable to see).
How and why did we get here? What are we suppose to do? What can we do, as black people to stop this war on us? You can’t tell me that black people are the only ones who talk junk to cops? How is it that we are the only ones who keep ending up DEAD? (Eric Garner, Freddie Gray)
I mentioned to a friend of mine that we all need to familiarize ourselves with the law, but as far as I know, Sandra didn’t break any. Well, no signal is an arrestable charge (I think I read somewhere), but it rarely happens. Are we being made to be examples? Is there a war on us? How do you know that the next police that pulls you over will not be a rookie and over zealous? I’m at a loss for words. I just can’t understand how this continues to happen to black people? How many police involved deaths of black people will it take before a change is made? How do we evoke change?
Help me? How do you feel? Was it business as usual, since you learned about #SandraBland or are you searching for answers and ways to protect your family and loved ones? Everyone that has a child growing up today, how secure do you feel about the safety of their futures? What are your suggestions? Let’s take action people.
