Graduation: #MiniMe Did It!
And my babygirl graduates. If you know me, then you know I don’t have any kids but my niece is the closest person I have that level of love and devotion for (you know they way a parent loves a child). I’ve loved her since I first laid eyes on the tiny baby who was born with an entire head full of hair. I’ve watched her grow from a silly little girl to a mature young woman. She’s faced many obstacles in her young life, but somehow she has managed to stay the course and make us all proud.
We loaded up multiple vehicles and headed to her hometown for graduation. It was such an emotional day for me, because again she feels like the daughter I’ve never had. I was very proud sitting in the audience waiting for her and her classmates to enter the arena. I even started crying somewhere between the pledge and the flag presentation- no graduates in sight! I’m terrible, I know. But I love her and it hit me- that she is headed into the real world. She has been accepted into college. She is not a baby any longer.
I started to think of all the things I’ve tried to instill in her. Things I wish I’d said to her and prayerfully hoping that she knows that she can come to me about anything. I hope she knows that I am her Aunt first and her friend last, but that doesn’t lessen my love for her. I prayed that Gabby knows she is beautiful, smart, and kind. I hope she doesn’t let heartbreak and setbacks alter her fun loving and well rounded personality.
I’m so excited to be apart of the next chapter in her life and to continue to watch her grow. These are just a few snaps of her graduation day. Wish her luck and success!
