Former Tyler Perry Comedy Writer Brian Egeston Releases Dramatic Web Series
Former Tyler Perry House of Payne Head Writer, Brian Egeston, went to work at the Atlanta studio every day with a secret. He wanted to write drama. “I’ve been a class clown, done stand-up and been the funny man every where I go, but I always wanted to write drama.”
Egeston wrote more than 30 episodes and worked on more than 100 episodes during his two and half year stint at the Atlanta studio. He was recently head writer for seasons two and three of The Rickey Smiley TV show and tried his hand at writing about central character with a life and plight rarely scene on TV and film.
In January of last year he wrote, directed and produced a series about an African American woman who takes to the mountains, rivers and lakes in order to protect her son. “We found an amazing actress named Jasmine Burke and she thought I was crazy when I said her character doesn’t wear any makeup, she never does her nails and could care less what her hair looks like….but she’s beautiful inside and out.”
Egeston’s web series revolves around a woman, Kia Right, whose adoption rights are overturned by a rich and powerful business mogul who wants her son after learning the child is connected to a multimillion-dollar inheritance. When authorities try to take the child, Kia goes into hiding in the remote North Georgia Mountains until she can overturn the ruling or hunt down the people after her son. All the while, authorities and hit men are in pursuit.
The main character is named after Egeston’s sister-in-law who was murdered while working at a convenience store. “My sister Kya went to the ends of the earth to protect and provide for her sons. I’d like to think that the legacy of her fighting spirit will one day be viewed by millions of people.
