Food| Atlanta’s Revolving Polaris Restaurant & Lounge
Monday evening I stepped off the elevator 25 stories above Peachtree Street inside the Hyatt Regency into the Polaris Restaurant, the brainchild of architect John Portman. The Blue Dome, that has been one of the most recognizable symbols in Atlanta, is re-lit and has returned it’s revolving restaurant lounge to our beautiful skyline.
I started the evening with a handcrafted Pin Up cocktail made with Tito’s vodka, peach, licor 43, proseco and pomegranate juice as I enjoyed the view of the city.
Polaris serves a seasonal menu created with the finest ingredients to create beautifully crafted plates, such as this Brandy rabbit boudin and pork belly cracklin as well as the Benton’s bacon popcorn which was a mixture of caramelized popcorn, smoked sea salt and candied bacon in a cup.
The open kitchen gives the restaurant a cozy, in home chef experience. The feeling that professional chefs are cooking for you inside your home as you enjoy the skyline. The ambiance alone is enough to visit the Polaris time and time again.
One of the larger plates prepared for my visit to the Polaris was the Steak Oscar. Myer lemon crab with asparagus tips, cox farm filet, bearnaise and shitake enhanced sea salt. The steak was cooked perfectly and the combination of the crab and asparagus was pleasantly delicious.
The cold smoked kurobuta pork tenderloin with buttered potato pave, apple jicama slaw and BBQ sauce two ways was my favorite. The medallion pork pieces and the slaw was a bold and flavorful mix. And the potato pave, reminded me of scallop potatoes once cut and I could have eaten another serving.
Chef Rodney created a fabulous menu with so many unique flavors as did pastry Chef Gallo with this creative spin on the traditional crème brûlée dessert and the Polaris Blue Dome, filled with chocolate and caramel. If you are living or visiting Atlanta and you don’t visit the Polaris restaurant and lounge you are doing yourself a disservice. Between the beautiful view of the city, the ambiance and the flavor intense menu.
