Cirque du Soleil’s Amaluna Wow’s At Atlantic Station + 20% Off Tickets
Cirque du Soleil is back in Atlanta with it’s latest show, Amaluna (‘ama’ meaning mom and ‘luna’ meaning moon) and it is a must see! The show takes place at the blue and yellow big top at Atlantic Station and is here through November 30th.
Walking into the 2600 seat tent you completely forget that you are simply in a parking lot as the atmosphere completely engulfs you into this creatively constructed little world. During the show there are fun and exciting acts including gymnasts, a contortionist, clowns of course, and a balance Goddess just to name a few. And in beautifully hand crafted costumes made and shipped from Montreal- each performer exceeded my expectations with their talent.
Production wanted to showcase the strength and beauty of women and made a conscious effort to make the cast 70% women and a 100% female band. Yep, there is live music from a band during the entire show.
During an interview after the show with the Cirque publicist Rowenna Dunn and head of wardrobe Larry Edwards, I learned a few sweet deets about the show:
– There are 992 wardrobe pieces
-It takes 40 hours to steam everything
– The huge bowl of water is only filled up once per city (But it does have a filter system like a pool, for you germ phobs!)
– The talent has to learn how to do their own makeup
They use a plastic mold of each artist face to stencil cutouts for tattoos
– The language in the show is ‘circ gibberish’
– They estimate 165,000 in attendance in Atlanta.

About The Show:
Amaluna invites the audience to a mysterious island governed by Goddesses and guided by the cycles of the moon.
Their queen, Prospera, directs her daughter’s coming-of-age ceremony in a rite that honours femininity, renewal, rebirth and balance which marks the passing of these insights and values from one generation to the next.
In the wake of a storm caused by Prospera, a group of young men lands on the island, triggering an epic, emotional story of love between Prospera’s daughter and a brave young suitor. But theirs is a love that will be put to the test. The couple must face numerous demanding trials and overcome daunting setbacks before they can achieve mutual trust, faith and harmony.
