Last night, WEtv hosted a red carpet premiere for their upcoming show “Growing Up Hip Hop,” an unscripted series that follows the lives of the children of music legends Rev. Run, Master P, Damon Dash, James DeBarge, Jam Master Jay, Sandy “Pepa” Denton and Treach. And as usual, I was standing front and center in the media pit snapping pics with my phone for you guys.
I always try to give you an honest take on the celebs and their personalities on the red carpet because we all like to know how friendly or not they are. All the young adults in the show were cool and they include- Angela Simmons, Romeo Miller, Boogie Dash, Kristinia DeBarge, TJ Mizell and Egypt Criss. They were all smiles and accommodating with our request on the carpet, which was held at SCADShow (formerly known as 14th Street Playhouse).
The night consisted of the red carpet arrivals, a screening of the new show in front of a room of about 500 viewers eager and a Q&A— moderated by multimedia personality Ebony Steele. Afterward, guests joined the cast at Whiskey Park for a lively after-party featuring music by DJ Mars and Mizell.
Additional attendees on the red carpet included Porsha Williams, Phaedra Parks, Kenya Moore, Mimi Faust, Stevie J, Joseline Hernandez, Mama June (WE tv’s “Marriage Boot Camp Reality Stars), Alanna “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson (TLC’s “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo”), Erica Dixon, Althea Hart, Demetria McKinney, Gocha Hawkins, Dice Dixon, Toya Wright, Monyetta Shaw, Drea Kelly, the casts of “Selling It: In the ATL” and “Cutting It: In the ATL,”Shanti Das, and many, many more.
Now, most importantly, the actual show. Growing Up Hip Hop was actually good. I’m sure that no one knows better than these celebrity seeds how hard it is to live in a parents’ shadow. But these young adults are determine to make a name for themselves and to be successful. The show was comedic and passionate and there seems to be a little bit of love brewing, but we will have to tune in to see.
Growing Up Hip Hop airs on Thursday, January 7th on WEtv at 10pm Est.
